Beliefs. Why its sometimes good to renegotiate those?
A belief can be anything what we hold as to be true and valid, can be about ourselves (eg. core beliefs - famous one is "I am not good enough ;-)"), or in some principle, philosophy, theory, worldview, rules, and many others.
Most of the beliefs are already formed from our early childhood and until everything running smoothly in life, we don´´´´ t tend to question these beliefs to see if they are really true for us.
Why is it important to work through and discuss our beliefs?
Belief is the root of all behaviour and I believe that it's a good idea to renegotiate the beliefs from time to time. It's not always easy, but it's worth it.
We make everyday decisions and actions based on our beliefs. Something feels right so we continue to do it, something feels wrong, so we take a different direction. A certain path or option doesn't even open up that way because our beliefs in something or in ourselves are so strong that we won't let it go. For example, if you have a belief that you're not good at math, that might stop you from trying algebra and getting better at it.
We have beliefs stored in our unconscious, subconscious and conscious beliefs. Most are unconscious, meaning we don't even have access to them, but we can start working with the conscious ones first and pull out the subconscious ones after them.
Sometimes we find ourselves in a place where we don't know how to proceed and something doesn't work, we feel we are frozen. That's when it's time to start questioning my beliefs, what do I believe that I can't move from this place, what am I resisting, what's keeping me here and why am I doing all this, what's in it for me? What would I like to believe to make a different approach? What would make me happier or more successful?
Is it security and safety? Or is it the belief that this is the only right way to do it? A belief might be, for example, "If I eat healthy, I'll be healthy." How surprised then were those who ate healthy when they got cancer. Is it just about that? Eating healthy? Another belief might be, "If I am good, people will like me." Does that really always work? For example, I found that I had the belief, "Only in trials do I grow spiritually," so I subconsciously told myself that I wanted trials because I wanted to grow spiritually. But is that really true? And only in trials do we grow? And do I actually still just want to grow? And what is growth, actually? :-) We all have our own unique and original truths and beliefs that we believe and sometimes when we figure them out, we wonder what it is that we actually believe.
Since our beliefs were often times poured into us at an early age and we have taken them as true and we can't seem to move on something from a place, that's what life is actually suggesting to us, that something doesn't add up and isn't working, something isn't true. Because life itself is the greatest teacher, it clearly shows that this is true and this is false. And how does it show? By where it takes us, how we feel and what happens to us. Don't you have love? What don't you believe in love, what don't you already know about love? Don't you have good friends? What don't you believe in people? Don't you have a good job? What would you have to believe to have one?
In order to reach our full potential it is important to go through our beliefs and faiths so that we can figure out if this belief that we believe has been taken over or if it is ours that is true and valid and working for our life. Try and see if you feel blocked somewhere and search for what truth you are holding there that is no longer valid... And if you discover it, then change it, because if you see it is not true, why should you continue to hold it... And you will see how doors will begin to open even where they have been closed.. ; -).
