A belief can be anything what we hold as to be true and valid, can be about ourselves (eg. core beliefs - famous one is "I am not good enough ;-)"), or in some principle, philosophy, theory, worldview, rules, and many others.
Life is primarily about security. We want to feel secure and protected. Our brain loves security. We do everything to make sure we feel safe. We want to be secure in relationships, we want to be safe with friends, have a protected environment, safe cars :-) etc. Of course we want to stay good, it's great to be secure. But...
